Anyone have people pop into view?

I was just diagnosed with Stage2/3 dry Macular Degeneration last month. I have been uncomfortable in stores for a while, with people “popping” into view suddenly. Anyone have this happen? I’m better if my husband goes with me, but I’m still having to pay attention to what I’m doing.

  1. I don't have people popping into view, but I have letters or numbers in something I'm reading popping in and out of view. I put that down to my blank spots caused by the Macular degeneration. The spots aren't big enough to obliterate whole people unless the environment is dark. I have to look to the left or right of the object and use my peripheral vision. Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. Thanks Wendy, I get surprised at the store when people are suddenly there. I am just learning about this and trying to see how to proceed with things.

      1. my mother gave up driving when she realised she couldn't see the stop sign which she knew very well was at the end of her street. So I understand about things disappearing. Were you only first diagnosed just last month? What are the main things you are having trouble with? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. Letters disappearing, words not reading correctly, vertical blinds wavy & moving. Not being able to drive at night.

      1. Have a safe trip. Thanks for the reply.

      2. you're welcome. The driving has been a challenge for me this time. Can't see nearly as well, but I'm hoping a new prescription for long distance will help that. Got to keep an eye on those kangaroos. Wendy, Patient Leader.
