Anyone had eye injections with a cataract

I don’t know if I should have cataract removed before starting injections in right eye. I have already had an injection in left eye but cataract was already removed. Will the shot be much more painful when having to deal with cataract. I am diagnosed with GA.

  1. I have injections in one eye for wet macular degeneration. I have cataracts too. There has never been a suggestion that cataracts would make the shot more painful. My shots don't hurt at all. But we are all different, and this question is one for your doctor. Has the doctor discussed if and when he/she would like to remove the cataracts? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I have cataracts in both eyes and receive both eylea and syfovre injections, currently 2 out of every three weeks. I have no problems with the injections.

      1. thank you for commenting. You certainly have a commitment to deal with, having injections two out of three weeks. I hope they are holding your sight steady. Does your doctor ever comment about when they will want the cataracts removed? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. I understand your concern, eye injections can be intimidating, especially with a cataract. From what I've seen, having a cataract doesn’t usually make the injection itself more painful, as your doctor will numb the area first.

Many people choose to have cataract surgery first to improve overall vision before starting injections, but it’s a personal choice. Talking it over with your doctor can help you weigh the benefits of each step. Wishing you comfort and clarity in your decision!

      1. thank you for your comment in reply to this question. I was particularly interested in what you said regarding the possibility of choosing to have cataracts removed first, before starting injections for wet macular degeneration. I haven't heard this mentioned before, so it piqued my curiosity. I'm not a medical professional of course, but the only suggestion I have come across so far in my personal experience is to wait until the wet amd is stabilized. I know there are many variables in the stage of the cataracts and the state of the wet amd, and everyone is different. Thank you for introducting the possibility of approaching this issue differently. Kind regards, Wendy, Patient Leader.
