I never gave up hope on clearing up wet Mac in one eye and two years later in the other. I now have 20/22 in both eyes. I really do not mind the injections at all. I must admit I found a team of fantastic Drs related to mother Mayo in Rochester Mn. I am on preventable injections every 3 months. It is a gift to be able to receive treatment that did not exist 50 years ago. Never give up.

  1. You are indeed fortunate to receive treatment through a Mayo Clinic. I am very happy for you that the injections worked so well and you are only requiring maintenance injections at this time. You touched on an important point, never lose hope. A new treatment or even a cure could be in our future. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate

    1. It's amazing to hear that you have a team of doctors you really trust who have made you feel supported on your macular degeneration journey. Thank you for sharing this story and message to our community. Warmly, Abby (Team Member).

      1. I LOVE your attitude, Lindy! Practicing gratitude for the vision you are able to retain with the injections is beautiful instead of focusing on the fear. We are so much better off than previous generations. It truly is a gift. What a great way to SEE it - Thank you for your inspiring message! Linda Hoopes, Advocate

        1. Great topic, Lindy! I was diagnosed a year and a half ago. Right eye: wet MD. Left eye: dry MD. I have started with injections of Eylea every four weeks in my right eye, which improved it by reducing the accumulation of fluid behind my macula! My right eye stabilized after about 6 months, and so the time between injections lengthened and are now at every 8 weeks. I have had no more leakage.

I am ever grateful for the excellent care I have from my Duke University retinal specialist, and for the advances in medical treatments.

I am having the first eye exam from a regular Duke Ophthalmologist, since my diagnosis, next week. I am interested to see how my overall vision has been affected by my MD, and if I need new glasses for a change in RX.
