I am new to this scary world of wet macular degeneration.

My third shot with a retinal specialist

Yesterday I had my third shot and so far, I have had good results. I have asked my retinal specialist a few questions, but I've done most of the research myself. I would love to find another patient to discuss it with.

Curious about side effects

I'm curious, does everyone have the same after-effects I have? Can anyone drive after getting the shot? That was an experience for me that I don't want to repeat. I did ask if I would be able to drive after the shot and the answer was "some people can."

Driving home after injections

Since I don't have trouble driving with my eyes dilated, I thought I would be ok after the shot so for the first one I drove the 10 miles to the office, got the shot, and headed home. Let me just say, I will never do that again.

Yesterday a friend took me and had to wait 2 hours and 15 minutes for me. That put more stress on me. From now on I will Uber. I have had a good result but there is so much I want to discuss and ask about. I am hoping that I will find some folks on this site that will share their experiences.

<inline-mention username="RoseannMarlean" user-id="4157716"/> I'm sorry you have developed wet macular degeneration but welcome to our community. I'm sure many folk will share their experiences with you. I have the dry form but know from this site; and my father's experience; that everyone's experience is slightly different. Some surgeries insist that the person having the injection is driven home. Other people feel a bit uncomfortable with their eyes, and wouldn't drive even if they could. Others don't want the extra exposure to sunlight that the dilation brings. It will be interesting to see if anyone says they drive home. Best wishes to you, Wendy, Advocate.

Hi, <inline-mention username="RoseannMarlean" user-id="4157716"/>, my RS insists we can’t drive for 2 hours if our eyes have been dilated. But since Covid-19, they don’t dilate every time. If my eyes haven’t been dilated, I have no problem seeing to drive. Just that one little black spot doesn’t interfere with my vision. But if they’ve been dilated, my vision is compromised for a while, which is when I go window shopping! Just with extra dark sunglasses! Hello RoseannMarlene, I have usually been able to drive myself to and from my eye injections. I’ve had AMD wet in one eye, dry in the other for 9 years. I’ve had over 80 injections. Of course, I only get the shot in my wet eye and my RS rarely dilates my eyes. He always has me take an OCT test before he comes into the exam room. I’m lucky that the eye docs office is close to my home less than 5 miles. If my eyes are too wonky to drive or if I’ve been dilated, I just call my wife for pickup.
