Diagnosis of Dry AMD

I am 46 and went for my annual eye exam in order to get safety glasses for my new job. I thought that I was going to add a bifocal since I was having trouble reading. I was diagnosed with AMD today instead. I was instructed to start the AREDS2 to slow the progression, maintain a healthy weight, eat dark greens, exercise, and quit smoking. I am kind of in limbo with not knowing what to expect or how long AMD takes to progress. It's a shock when you expected a bifocal and end up with an incurable eye disease.
