   <p>Hello, <inline-mention user-id="3110722" username="arbo"/> . That is a great question and one many of us have asked at one time or another. Unfortunately, vision that has been lost due to macular degeneration cannot be restored. There are some things we can do to help preserve our remaining vision, but that&#39;s dependent on our individual unique situations and diagnosis. It may be helpful for you to generate a list of questions to bring in to ask your retina specialist next time you go. Do you know what type of macular degeneration you&#39;ve been diagnosed with?    <p>Hi arbo, <br> I was diagnosed with macular degeneration in early 2019 at the age of 75. I have the wet AMD in my left eye, and the dry in my right eye. <br> I&#39;ve been getting a shot of Eylea in my left eye since that time. I&#39;m now getting one every 10 weeks. There is no treatment for dry eye AMD. <br> When I was first diagnosed my left eye perceived straight lines as being wavy. I also had a grayish area in the center of my left eye&#39;s vision. I could see through it, but it distorted what I was looking at. <br> I can honestly say that my vision in my left eye has improved because I no longer have the distortion, or wavy lines. My vision is very blurred, but is improved when I wear my glasses. My right eye has remained stable. I was already wearing glasses for reading, and for driving at the time of my diagnosis. <br> I think what was critical in my case is that I recognized immediately what was happening because we had gone through the exact same thing with my mom just a few years prior to her death. She eventually did become legally blind. <br> My doctor is very optimistic that we can maintain my vision at the current level for a long time. I recognize that even dry AMD does progress, though not as rapidly. <br> I do take AREDS II twice a day. I&#39;m very physically active. I exercise, walk 45 - 60 minutes every morning, and eat lots of veggies (spinach daily) and fruits, especially berries. I haven&#39;t eaten any meats except for fish and fowl for many years. I think taking very good care of yourself is really critical. <br> I know that I am very blessed, and that my experience so far is very different from most. I also know that it can change, but I&#39;ll cross that bridge when, and if, it comes. <br> Stay positive, stay engaged, both physically and mentally, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately there isn&#39;t anything that can be done to restore lost vision due to macular degeneration. It&#39;s heartbreaking news to give and to hear. The good news is that there is a lot we can do to preserve the vision we do have starting with a discussion with our specialists and inlcuding a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise. Please know that you are not alone in this.
