what are some help for daily living

Have applied "dots" to the microwave
Using a cane to walk
Alexa reads books to me

what are support ideas for help with every day life

  1. those bump dots are great, aren't they. I use Alexa too. She reads the news and plays music, and turns my lamps on and off. I find the lamps part really useful, if I walk into a dark room. Have you thought about seeing a low vision therapist or going to a low vision centre? They can assess what areas of life you need assistance with, and advise you accordingly. Lighting and magnification are important issues, but it depends on what stage your macular degeneration is at. My mother used contrasting colors for placemats and plates and mugs etc. It helped her with her food at the table. I bought a big-screen television and Alexa can help change volume and channels - I think that is very useful. If you have any particular tasks that you are finding difficult, let us know. 1. i must get some bump dots. I have trouble reading the displays on appliances. I bought an Alexa enabled air fryer since I couldn’t read the display. I plan to replace small and large appliances with Alexa enabled features as mine need replacement. The lighted magnifying app on my iPhone is something I use every day. I had several falls outdoors so I now use trekking poles when I work or walk outdoors. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader

      1. Need to see about the magnifying app on the phone. Was given a ‘talking’ watch and it is great to use.

        1. which brand of watch talks to you? That would be helpful. The magnifying app is something I use daily. Regards, Sharon Moore patient leader
