Spending time alone while living with low vision

Are you nervous to navigate the outside world by yourself? Or do you mostly feel prepared to leave the house despite your vision loss?

What tips would you provide someone if they said they were nervous to leave the house alone with macular degeneration?

  1. If I have to drive in a town with traffic lights it does make me nervous. Colors are fading out and some days are worse depending on the weather. My solution is to learn alternate routes to the store that do not include traffic signals.
    After falling outdoors during a walk, I became anxious that I might fall again. I bought trekking poles to make me more stable on my gravel driveway. I wear an Apple Watch with fall detection. It can call 911 if I fall and have injuries.
