photobiomodulation

I am going for a consultation to see if I am a candidate for PBM. My left eye has some atrophy, but my right eye is intermediate dry and stable for the moment. I want to preserve it and my RS suggested PBM. Has anyone had experience with this? It's 9 treatments and expensive, but worth it 100% if it works.

  1. Hi Suzanne! Photobiomodulation was only approved by the FDA in November, so it might be a while before you get responses. I'm glad you started this forum though so people have a place to share their experiences. Here is an article about it's approval that might interest you: https://www.aao.org/eye-health/news/light-therapy-photobiomodulation-dry-amd-ga. I wish it didn't cost so much. I'm guessing insurance won't cover it just yet. I hope you get some input soon enough to make a decision. Keep us posted if you don't mind. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)

    1. Hi Lori -
I went for the consultation today and it is expensive and not covered, however, it seems 80% of people in multiple clinical trials had clearer, better vision after 9 treatments - so 2-3 every week for a month. I appear to have a lot of drusen in both eyes with a good chance of converting to wet and this may help that from happening. It sounds very much worth the investment, so I am beginning next week.

      1. I am excited for you getting this new treatment for dry AMD. I wish you great success.

    2. Thank you Sharon. I am going for my first two sessions this week. Apparently they only take 5-10 minutes per eye and it is totally painless. I just hope at least one eye falls into the 80% who saw improvement.

      1. I am super excited for you as well! I hope insurance eventually covers it. Maybe over time. Please do let us know how it goes. Sending lots of postive, healing vibes your way. - Lori (Team Member)
