Living With Multiple Eye Conditions

Calling community members with multiple eye conditions! Please use this forum thread as a chance to share your eye condition journey and what you may be coping with along with macular degeneration.

  1. I have dry macular degeneration, intermediate in the right eye and early in the left. Not too long after this diagnosis I was also diagnosed with chronic dry eye. Both AMD and chronic dry eye cause me blurring. Recently my retinal specialist advised me that I have significant floaters in my right eye. He said they were bad enough that I might eventually require a vitrectomy to remove them. Having experienced that procedure with my husband, I am not anxious to have surgery. Sharon Moore Advocate

      1. I have chronic dry eye. I have wet macular degeneration in both eyes. I am currently Avastin injections in my left eye. I was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration in January 2009. I was stable since 2017 until July 25th. 2021. Then my left eye had a hemorrhage and I've gotten monthly injections ever since.. Today I have another appointment for injection. I have floaters in both eyes that my retina specialist described as a hangman noose and a stirrup. They drive me crazy. I also have glaucoma. I am also very nearsighted which he told me puts me at a higher risk for retina detachment. Vision issues are not fun at all. I've worn classes for 57 years.

        1. JMSC, I have cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration in both eyes. I was told that I could not have new glasses as they would not help my vision at this point. I was also told that I needed to have surgery to remove my cataracts. This was back in September. But I had to wait until I had another surgery that was crucial to my health. So I am now waiting until after the first of the year fo that surgery.

        2. @JMSC I'm sorry to hear you have to wait until next year for your cataract surgery. I hope your other surgery went well. Please keep in touch and let us know how your cataract surgery goes. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

      2. Thank you. I received a 4th Avastin injection today. My doctor decided to try spacing it out further. So my next appointment will be sometime in January.
