missed appointment

I live two hours away from the eye clinic and depend on others for transportation. Every once in a while the schedule/planning falls through at the last minute. My question is if I miss one appointment will I still be OK? I get injections of Eyelea every 6 weeks for wet AMD. I was up to 12 weeks apart earlier this year but the doc wanted to be extra careful cause he saw slight swelling, so he scheduled closer appointments.

  1. I understand that depending on others for transportation can sometimes result in missed appointments. There is no way to know whether or not that missed appointment will have a negative impact on your condition. When my sister who has wet macular degeneration, has to miss an appointment the doctor tries to get her in as soon as possible. Thanks for sharing, Sharon Moore Advocate

    1. I agree with Sharon. There is no way of knowing what would have happened at a missed appointment. Even the doctor doesn't know until they look at the OCT imaging. I understand how difficult it can be to get to doctors appointments. My father is in residential care, and he needs a nurse, a wheelchair and a wheelchair taxi to get to his appointments. A minor glitch anywhere in the system becomes a major problem. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about a change in appointment of a couple of days or so, but I wouldn't want to wait until the next 6 or 12 weeks. Best of luck with your transportation and your treatment. Kind regards, Wendy, Advocate.

      1. I have a similar situation. I had to cancel an eye injection appointment for macular degeneration on December 30 because of snow. It would have been my 5th injection at 7 weeks. I have an appointment tomorrow but we are expecting more snow tonight. I live on a hill and can’t get out. It’s supposed to start raining and I can get an appointment for next Wednesday, January 12. Is that too long to wait or should I really try to get to the appointment tomorrow?

      2. that's a difficult decision, and I wish I could suggest what is best to do, but it depends on the particular situation with your eyes at the moment. Only your doctor knows if it would be safe to delay your injection, and for how long. I hope you can get onto your doctor and ask them. Best wishes to you. Wendy, Advocate.

    2. That's a tough one. Maybe call your doc? I am snowed in as well and live 2 1/2 hours away from the clinic. I canceled but put myself on an on-call in case there is a spot that shows up that fits my time frame and weather. Also, the clinic accidentally canceled my Feb 1 appointment..soooo, I am further out then ever between appointments but the roads are treacherous.

      1. you folks certainly have some treacherous conditions to deal with! You have to keep life and limb safe before anything else. I hope you get a cancellation appointment. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.
