MD in one eye

Does anyone here have advanced MD in just one eye? Is that even possible?

  1. I just had a look at brightfocus.org and www.mayoclinic.org and both of them say that macular degeneration can develop in one or both eyes. Were you diagnosed with advanced macular degeneration in one eye straight off, or did it develop gradually? Wendy, Patient Leader.

    1. I have early-stage MD in my right eye. He said he'd see me in a year. He said genetics is the greatest factor in MD...but doing my research shows many other possible causes such as obesity, and cholesterol, you name it! I just want to slow down progression and am trying to understand the disease better.

      1. I'm pleased to hear it's early stage and only in one eye at the moment. This disease can often progress slowly. I was diagnosed about 8 years ago and don't have significant problems right now. My new doctor told me the type of dry amd I have is much more genetically based than some others. He could tell that from the OCT picture, but don't ask me how. Have you read our articles about trying to eat a Mediterranean-type diet? That seems to be universally recommended. Wendy, Patient Leader.

    2. Thank you, Wendy. I'll check out those articles 😀
