Eye injection with Omicron raging

I am debating not going to my eye injection next Friday because of the Omicron surge I am scared to death to bring the infection to my adult son who I live with. I called the doctor office and their protocol has not changed They do not test their doctors or assistants. They wear masks and gloves and keep distances. I told them that the assistant gets close to you to put in dilating drops and of course the doctor prepares you and gives you the shot. and the assistant washes your eye out for the Biotin I got no where they thought what they do is fine. What shall I do?

  1. I really feel for you! I personally think your questions were quite justified. I don't think there is a right answer for this dilemma. I'm just trying to think what I would do in your situation, and it is a very difficult decision. You don't want to lose your sight - that obviously wouldn't be good for you or your son. Omicron doesn't look like going anywhere soon, so you will face this problem now or down the track, whatever you decide. Could you possibly isolate from your son after your injection, with either you or him staying somewhere else, or even isolating in the same house and wearing masks, etc. I can't think of any other solution - maybe others here will have some further ideas. Thinking of you. Best wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

    1. I agree with Wendy that this decision is a personal one for each of us. According to the experts you have to be in close contact to a contagious person for 15 minutes to be considered exposed to Covid https://www.mdanderson.org/cancerwise/what-counts-as-coronavirus-covid-19-exposure--how-does-contact-tracing-identify-who-has-been-exposed-to-covid-19.h00-159383523.html
Wearing an N95 mask would lessen your risk. Another factor is whether you are fully vaccinated for Covid. I hope you find a way to safely continue your injections. Let us know how it works out for you. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate

      1. I am fully vaccinated. I placed several phone calls to my doctor asking him what damage to my treatment would I do by not showing up for my injection appointment I have not been able to talk to him there is this barrier of assistants who tell you the same script that their virus protocol is fine and they do not let me talk directly with the doctor. I suggested the scenario of masking and distancing to my son and the results were disturbing. he became furious and could not conceive doing that.
I am leaning to going to the appointment: I do wear two masks. I am still petrified.
Thank you for your input. I feel emotionally fragile and just being able to express my fear helps.

        1. we'll be thinking of you on Friday. I think double-masking or the N95 mask that Sharon suggests is a good idea. I've started double-masking. Personally, I haven't cancelled a doctor's appointment since this virus started and I've found all doctors and assistants to be very careful. They don't want to catch it either. But I don't have a vulnerable person at home, so I understand your feelings. Warm wishes, Wendy, Advocate.

      2. I have good news my doctor did finally call me back and after talking to him he sounded quite confident that all precautions would be taken and he added : if my grand-parents asked me I would tell them go ahead. Thank you for your kindness and support. It feels good to have someone to talk to

        1. I'm so glad to hear this! Thank you for letting us know. What the doctor said was very reassuring. I hope you can relax a little bit now. I think you should plan a little treat for yourself after the injection. Warm wishes, Wendy.
