Diagnosed Wet MD in November

Hello, just checking in with my latest injection. Last time and this time. (yesterday 10/18/22), I had Eylea as the RS saw an improvement over that last time.

Reacting to the pain

One hour from injection here comes the dreaded pain and this time it was relentless! If you've never seen a crazy person then you would have seen me last night at my worst! Things I did to help alleviate the pain, to no avail, were cold compress, artificial tears, bacitracin ointment, walking the floors, and cursing. Nothing helped!

Think this was the worst episode in the 11 months I have been treated. I will be going back in about six weeks (November) and I am going to opt for laser treatment rather than injections.

Can't do it again

I just don't think I can go through this again for the ninth time. I have the wet kind of macular degeneration. What is weird is no one knows why this is happening! I wish I had some answers. By the way, prior to the last two injections, I was getting Avastin. Both medications had the same adverse reactions in me. I was hoping the Eylea would be the magic one, but it wasn't.

Sharon I am so sorry you had such a miserable time after that last injection. Does your doctor think the laser treatments will be as effective as the injections? One community member recently shared that her doctor prescribed pain relieving drops to use just before the injection and afterwards. I have no idea if that would be approved for you but your doctor would. Thanks for the update, Sharon Moore Patient Leader

Hi Sharon, Sorry took so long to get back to you on your post. I haven't talked to my RS yet on using laser instead of injection. I will at my next appointment which is 29th November. She was not for this at the beginning of treatment which will be a year this next month, hard to believe a year has passed so fast! I didn't know there was pain drops to relieve pain before and after and I will sure be asking her about that. She did give me drops which she thought might help with the pressure she assumed might be the cause. It's drops for Glaucoma, and I did get that filled and used once but it did nothing for the pain. I don't know if this is the drops your referring to for pain. I will give an update after my next appointment. One last note, I have received the last two-times Eylea instead of Avastin and I don't know about the second injection yet but the first injection of Eylea she could see improvement of the leakage, so will be interested to see is there is a continuation of improvement. The downside of Eylea is the co-pay is $100 as opposed to the Avastin, which is $15 co-pay!! Thanks again for your concern. Sharon Hume

 <inline-mention username="Sharon Hume" user-id="4554906"/> you will have a lot to discuss when you see the doctor again. The pain drops the person mentioned was Ketorolac. So many have mentioned improving with Eyelea. I hope your last injection shows improvement on your next scan. Eyelea has a patient assistance program for those that qualify. Thank you for the name of the pain drops. Unfortunately, we don't qualify for reduced co-pay on Eylea. You know, MIDDLE INCOME!! Yes, that was facetious because we also are in no way wealthy! If we were I wouldn't for a minute complain of the co-pay. I would love to say, 'cost is not a problem'! lol I will get back with the group after my next go around! Sharon Hume

Sharon Hume...is it pain or burning? If it's burning, have your doc put a dab of Erythromycin Ophth Ointment <a href='http://3.5GM' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer ugc'>3.5GM</a> in your eye immediately after the shot. I do and it stops the burning.
