Surprise, I have MD!

I went to renew my driver's license and could not pass the test. Found out I had macular degeneration (MD); I had no idea. I went to an eye specialist and found out with both eyes I was fine – great peripheral vision in the left eye – so "thanks" for that. So my left eye was wet and my right was dry.

Beginning treatment for my macular degneration

I started shots (forgot what for the first one) and moved to Eyelea. My left eye has been maintained and on this last visit, my doctor said my right eye is showing bad signs. So we started shots in the right eye also.

Making adjustments in daily life

I still drive but must wear sunglasses or I get all types of spinning things in my vision. TV, cell phones, and computers can cause these issues also. I just now wear my sunglasses most of the time. I can function fairly well now, but review options frequently. We are totally cleaning up and tossing out all things unneeded and making a house with everything in its place... just in case.

Finding support in friends

I am learning things from a dear friend of more than 50 years who has been legally blind all these years. She is giving me tips on how to do things to be able to function better IF I lose all my vision. It is not fun to face; I love to read and play bridge. I also have profound hearing loss, so books on tape may not be an option. But I get strength on a daily basis to face the issues and continue living life to the fullest that I can.
