Seeing Waves

I have dry macular degeneration in both eyes. I am beginning to see waves in my right eye. My nom had wet macular degeneration and she would always say to me "Take care of your eyes it’s the only ones you’ll ever have!"

She passed away at 95 in 2020. I am an optician going on 46 years, and I love my profession. I do take my eye vitamins every day.

I'm starting to see a little wave in my right eye, too, and a few light gray spots. My father had wet amd so it is firmly in my family. Thanks for sharing your story. Best wishes to you. I also have dry AMD. It runs in my family. My aunt, uncle, and grandmother had it. Probably my dad was developing it but he died before it got bad. My mom tells me that he didn’t like driving at night because he couldn’t see well. My aunt’s dry AMD progressed to the point where all her center vision was gone. She lived to be 91. Her son has it. And another cousin has it too. I was diagnosed when I was 62. I’m 68 now. My left eye isn’t real bad, thankfully. However my right eye has the wavy lines and distortion. I see an excellent retinal specialist. They are watching that right eye as he thinks it will turn wet. It’s so aggravating because I’m a piano player and the distortion in the right eye really is affecting my ability to learn new music.

I see wavy lines with my right eye but I am fortunate that the left eye compensates. I can understand how it would affect your ability to learn new music.
