Adjusting Over Time

What effect does my wet AMD have on my life after 7 years?

Injections

I have Eyelea injections in both eyes - one eye every 6 weeks and the other eye every 12 weeks. It's just a routine for me. I look at the sunrise/sunset charts when making any early morning or late afternoon plans since I live in the Pacific Northwest and can not drive in the dark.

Helpful gadgets

I have little vinyl “dots” that stick to specific buttons on my microwave and the fan and light buttons on my stove. I know that the “off” button is below the raised “on”. This has lowered my frustration immensely.

Is it safe to drive?

Making plans for meals with friends are a little more complicated. Twice this last month friends have made plans for lunches rather than dinners together. However, If I am invited to dinner, I have to decide if I can hitch a ride with a friend attending or if I need to call an Uber/Lyft/taxi for my transportation. Of course, I CAN invite them to MY house for dinner!

Light is a challenge

I NEED LIGHT! except when I don’t. I have a healthy collection of lights and magnification - in my purse, car, art room, kitchen, desk, and around my neck. I also have sunglasses, that I keep in my purse - the kind that fit over my prescription glasses. I have extras in the glove box of each car. Even with this, you will see me ordering coffee, wearing my sunglasses, lowering them in order to see the words on the keypad, then raising them again so I can see my way back outside. I am finding this all a little humorous.

Vision pet peeves

However, during this period of changing sight, I have developed a pet peeve: small gray print on black backgrounds, (found on electronic devices and designer items), and some movies that show people reading their text messages (something I can only do if I re-wind the movie and step nearer the TV screen while the text message is on the screen). That’s one reason for DVR.
