You Can Do It!

I have been receiving intravitreal injections in one eye for about 1-1/2 years, one eye with wet macular degeneration.

Preparing for the worst

I had a friend who started getting them years ago and thought they were horrible so I was prepared for the worst! However, although I am not a brave person, I don't lose sleep over the shots, nor have I found them painful, just some pressure but over in an instant.

Discomfort after injections wears off

My eye is a little uncomfortable when the deadening agent wears off but is almost normal the next day. I would suggest keeping the eye closed if possible for a couple of hours after, and not moving the eyeball over much. I feel if I can do it, anyone can. I also have cataracts, and glaucoma, and have had a central retinal vein occlusion in that eye. I have to use 2 different glaucoma eye drops and they really burn after receiving the shot, but retaining one's eyesight is so important.

Don't let fear deter you

Don't let fear keep you from doing whatever you can to keep your precious eyesight. If you are simply too nervous, maybe let your GP know and they can help.

I send best wishes to all.

Oh, and I am allergic to betadine so something different is used as eye prep. If you have excessive pain or grittiness after the shot, it could be that.
