What Age Did You Notice A More Rapid Loss of Sight?

   <p> It was approximately eight years ago, in my early sixties, that I was diagnosed with dry macular degeneration in one eye. A few years later I was diagnosed with the same condition in the other eye. I had always had lots of floaters of various shapes, and it was difficult to know which of the little &quot;blotches&quot; I saw were floaters, and which were from the macular degeneration. I seem to have always had more trouble seeing in the dark than other people, and this continued. Only now, after eight years, have both eyes been declared to be at the intermediate stage. My retinal specialist said that I am lucky in that the changes in the macula aren&#39;t right in the centre of my vision, just a little to the side of the centre. I don&#39;t really notice the changes very much in good light. Each eye seems to make up for the deficiencies in the other eye. After dark it is a different story, and I don&#39;t drive in the evening unless I have to, or I&#39;m very familiar with the territory. I made the decision not to drive in the dark after I was driving one night in an area unfamiliar to me, and it started raining, and the line markings were impossible to see with the water and the glare. I really didn&#39;t know what lane I was in, or what lane I was supposed to be in. That was scary, and influenced my decision to keep my driving to the day-time. I use a larger font on all my devices and I&#39;m trying to learn as much as I can about adaptive technology to help me cope in the future. Wendy, Advocate.</p>
