For years I have had severe pain after injections.

Research

I was unable to open my eyes for hours because it hurt and my eyes that teared a lot. I was told it just happened to some people because of their background. I like to research, so finally, I set to work to see what I could find.

Several things I found

There were several things I found and wanted to ask my doctor about them. He was indignant and said to stop using the internet. My husband, (a retired pediatrician), kept saying maybe it was just the technique he used. I talked to several friends I knew and they said they had no trouble.

Went to another doctor

I finally made the leap and went to another doctor. What a HUGE difference! I didn't even notice the first injection. The technique was very different and I did not have pain and never had a problem opening my eye.

It was like like a miracle.

Most people in this community feel only a little discomfort, if that, when they have their injections. Some feel a little irritation afterwards, but many think the Betadine has something to do with that. Congratulations on advocating for yourself and finding a new doctor. You certainly had reason to do so. And what a wonderful result! You must be extremely happy that you now have no pain (and I imagine a little annoyed that you had to suffer for so long). But moving forward, I wish you all the best with your eyes and your treatment. Wendy, Advocate.

I did find the same things as you reported, little pain or none. That is the reason I finally tried to find the reason. I was different. People with ARMD should know it is not THEM and nothing can be done about the pain. It should be known that if you do have exceptional pain and you cannot get satisfaction please check with another doctor. Some keep up with new techniques to reduce pain and some don’t. You are so right about Betadine. The first dr had drops put in twice which just bathed the eye and surrounding tissue. The second doctor just used a q tip to clean the area to be injected. I just don’t want others to accept that some people have pain and others do not.

Yes I finally asked my Dr. to wash my eyes out real good to get the burning out and he uses a swab. I have wet in both eyes but my right is worst lg. dark spot. Just sm. in left eye. I also have bleprospasams in the right side of my face and have to have botex shots for it. I go out alot to my flower gardens and to mow the lawns so I am outside alot. need a good pair of sun glasses. I am 81.

Strangely enough just had a session with State support person sent to my house. She had a box of sunglasses to try. She did say amber glasses are better than gray. The two pair that were the best for me were a pair of amber and a faint lavender type. Do you have a state dept of the blind and sight impaired? They are very helpful.
