Not Quite Like the Majority
I have wet AMD in both eyes. I’ve been getting injections in my right eye for 5 years and in my left eye for 4 years. So far, they work for me. My vision is stable. Yay!
A history of eye issues
Before wet AMD, I had 7 corneal transplants and at least that many procedures that required numbing, injections, and speculums in my eyes. My meibomian (tear secretion) glands are damaged, causing acute dry eyes. I’m also severely allergic to Betadine. I feel a brief stab when I get the injection, but I have a burning, raw pain the rest of the day no matter how much they wash my eyes.
Taking pain medicine when needed
I realized some of my discomfort was on the inside of my eyelids. Soothing drops and ointment help and the anti-inflammatory pain med ibuprofen works best. I know that it is a mild blood thinner, too, so I don’t take it before my shot, and because capillaries are involved in wet AMD, I don’t take it any other time. I don’t recommend taking ibuprofen without discussing it with your doctor.
