Living with GA and Dry Eye
The article by Sharon Moore pretty much recounts my own story. I get injections for geographic atrophy (GA) every 2 months. At our last session, my retinal specialist (who is brilliant and considered one of the best in the US) did not see significant changes in my vision. I am however having a difficult time adjusting. He thought I needed new lenses in my glasses but my optometrist says no. Ms. Moore spoke of her dry eye issues which are similar to mine.
Treating my dry eye
I use over the counter prescription drops, and sparingly steroidal drops to alleviate the blurring. What part of my symptoms is from the geographic atrophy and what part is dry eye? I’m trying to not use air conditioning in spite of our frequently 100 degree weather. It seems to help with the burning and blurriness somewhat.
Double vision impedes my ability to do things
I too have developed double vision and wear glasses with prism correction. They do help. I am also an artist and an avid reader, so this all has bee a blow. Particularly as the condition changes frequently, so I feel as though I’m on hold in my life. There are some magnifying devices online which seem to help.
Searching for what works
The little inexpensive items are not much help, but the ‘professional grade’ magnifiers are better. However, they can be pricey. I’d like to know if anyone has had luck with a device that works well.
Thanks, Barbara Alexander
