Geographic Atrophy & Coping With Facial Recognition

I am a 77-year-old woman, dealing with the challenges of macular degeneration and geographic atrophy.

I received this diagnosis about one year ago, and I am coping with the challenges one day at a time. As a result, I am unable to read and write. I have been creative and use the number of the services from technology, computer, and audiobooks.

The most recent challenge has been facial recognition. I am an active person and enjoy being in the presence of others. Therefore, when I am in a group, for example a yoga class or exercise class , when someone addresses me, I am unable to see their face and honor their presence. It has been a humbling experience, and I know my goal is to become more comfortable with expressing my truth and telling others of my challenge of facial recognition.

I am open to any advice or creative strategies that will help me deal with facial recognition in a group setting.
