After Injection Story

I was diagnosed with wet AMD 13 months ago (9/21). Injections were started in both eyes every 6 weeks, then progressed to 8 weeks. The injections were not the problem.

Post-injection pain

The problem was the excruciating pain that ensued post-injection for 16 to 20 hours.
The doctor told me it was the betadine before the injection that was probably the cause. He began to flush my eye after the injection. My last 3 injections, with extensive flushing, brought no relief.

Please, no betadine

My retina specialist would not prescribe ANY pain medication. The pain was too much for me. I thought the pain from pancreatitis was terrible. This was much worse. Last week I came in for my next injection. I asked the doctor not to give me betadine. I was willing to sign a waiver excusing him of any fault if I were to get an infection.

Searching for someone who listens

He refused. I had researched the side effects and told him that some doctors stopped using betadine and the results were no post-injection pain for his patients. I had it on my phone but it did not matter to him.

No betadine, no injection. I am now searching for a retina specialist who will give me an injection without the use of betadine. I live in the high desert, Victorville, Calif. Are there any retina specialists in or near this area who can do this?
