I am an Optician ,going on 46 years in Optical I have dry macular. My Mom had wet macular ,she would say to me take good care of your eyes,it’s the only ones you’ll ever have,she passed away at 95,in 2020. I see waves in my right eye,I do take my eye vitamins. The Optometrist told me that my macular looked like it was hereditary.

I also have a strong family history of macular degeneration. My mom and sister both have wet macular degeneration while my son and I both have dry. Best wishes, Sharon Moore Advocate

I'm glad to hear that you've found that taking vitamins is beneficial for you - that's very common in this community! As Sharon mentioned, AMD does tend to have a strong hereditary component to it. I was diagnosed with macular degenerative while being checked out for new glasses . Sure enough the specialist confirmed wet in my left eye and dry in my right I received frequent injections and testing. Still I lost my central vision in my left eye. Fortunatly my right eye has stayed dry.I retired shortly after my diagnosis. I enjoy every day and find beauty all around me. I like to bake and decorate cakes .It's sometimes frustrating and sometimes funny this disease. I once watched a twig for 20 minutes thinking it was a bird.I compensate the best I can as life must go on,one day at a time.
