What are some low-tech solutions or switches that make life with AMD easier?

What are some at-home adjustments that making living with macular degeneration easier? For some, it's contrasting colors or bump dots, but what are your favorites?

  1. My local low-vision society is now recommending sticky double-sided velcro dots to use on things like memory dial landline phone keys. They can be cut down to size if necessary and because of their rough surface they are very easy to feel. I've just put one on my mother's phone on the key she presses to call me. Wendy, Advocate.

    1. , yes, they work exactly like bump dots but they're bigger and more tactile. Craft and sewing shops sell them very cheaply. They are also used as fasteners on clothes instead of buttons. I put a couple of them on Mum's blouse, as well as the one on the telephone! Wendy, Advocate.

    2. these seem like great options! Thanks so much for sharing!

  2. I added battery operated led light strips under my kitchen cabinets in areas where I couldn’t see well. I need to put them in my pantry now. I also added a led light strip to my sewing machine so I could continue sewing.

    1. thanks for sharing, Sharon! Placing them on your sewing machine seems like a great idea, I'll have to try that! -Sonia
